How to Get Divine Inspiration & Unlock Buildings – Cult of the Lamb

Beelzebub the Builder

Don your cloak, break out your ceremonial knife, and get ready to sacrifice a heretic to an elder god because Cult of the Lamb is here. Developed by Massive Monster, this game is a mix of the base builder and rogue-lite genres. Players assume the role of a lamb who was rescued by a mysterious entity and instructed to build a following in its name. While you will spend a lot of time skulking through colorful dungeons, it’s important to build up your base. As you play Cult of the Lamb, you’ll need to build facilities to improve your cultist’s quality of life with Divine Inspiration.

Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking buildings and decorations:

How to Get Divine Inspiration

The only way to unlock buildings in Cult of the Lamb is by gaining Divine Inspiration. This is done by earning devotion which is this game’s version of experience. When you arrive in the grove, one of your first tasks will be to build a Shrine in honor of your new otherworldly god. This shrine will be your primary source of deovtion for Divine Inspiration, as followers can be instructed to worship around this altar to fill up the progress bar above the statue’s head. You can make a follower pray at the shrine by interacting with them and selecting Work and then Worship on the radial menu.

You can have multiple followers worshipping a Shrine at once and can collect the experience at any time by pressing A (Xbox)/X (PlayStation) when standing next to it. You will see the amount you collect and the amount needed to get a single point of Divine Inspiration on the progress bar at the top of your screen. Alternatively, you can also earn this experience by completing side quests for the various characters you meet such as the cult in the lighthouse at Pilgrim’s Passage. Finishing these quests will create small totems that will also fill up with experience over time.

Furthermore, you can gain devotion for Divine Inspiration by killing monsters in the various dungeons you’ll traverse. They don’t offer a lot, but it’s a nice source of additional XP when you’re starting out or completing tasks for your followers.

How to Unlock Buildings

Once you have a point of Divine Inspiration, go to the shrine and press X (Xbox)/Square (PlayStation) to bring up the build menu. At first, you will only have a few structures available, but as you unlock more buildings you will gain access to the next tier of structures. Each line has a specific Divine Inspiration threshold you need to hit so don’t expect everything to be available right away. Additionally, some structures require you to unlock others to gain access to them. For example, if you want to build the Confession you will need to unlock the Prison first. This is the only way to unlock buildings, so it will take a lot of time to acquire every structure in the game.

As for decorations, these have no function other than to make your place look prettier or creepier depending on what you prefer. Decorations can be earned from obtaining blueprints, which can randomly drop from chests in dungeons. What item you get will depend on which of the dungeons you’re in as there are several you can only get in specific areas. For those with gold weighing down their pockets, you can purchase blueprints from merchants both in and out of dungeons.

One place that has a selection of blueprints is in the Spore Grotto, Pilgrim’s Passage, Smuggler’s Sanctuary, and Midas’s Cave. You will unlock these places by meeting specific NPCs throughout the four different dungeons. After unlocking these areas you can visit there and see what the merchant is selling. Their wares will not rotate, feel free to buy them whenever. Finally, in dungeons you may come across an NPC called Forneus who will give you a free item. One of these will always be a blueprint, so feel free to pick it up if you want! I recommend the Commandment Stone Fragment since those have a direct impact on gameplay and your cult.

Just remember, building is only one part of Cult of the Lamb. You’ll want to ensure you’re spending all that Divine Inspiration on items your cult needs like homes, refineries, and farms!
