How to Do Fortnite Cross Play

Fortnite’s popularity is due in part to how easy is to just download and play. Playing with your friends on PS4 or Xbox when you’re on a different console, however, is a little trickier. Thankfully, enabling Fortnite cross play isn’t all that hard when you have the steps laid out for you.

You probably already have step one taken care of, but in case you don’t, you’ll need to create or log into your Epic Games account. This is because cross play can only occur when there is a party of players across multiple platforms.

Now you’ll need to link your Epic Account to your Xbox Live gamertag, PSN ID, Nintendo account, etc. You can do this by clicking on your username on the Epic Games website and then navigating to “Connected Accounts” in the sidebar.

Doing so will also sync all of your purchases on each console.

The hard part is done. Log into Fortnite and open your options menu to add your teammates’ Epic Accounts as friends. They’ll need to accept this before you can invite them to a party and get playing.

Once you’ve completed all of these steps you should be good to go to use the party finder! The game will match you up with other cross-platform groups. If someone on your team is on PC, for example, you’ll be matched with others that also have at least one player on PC. Keep that in mind when deciding which platforms to play on since keyboard and mouse generally provide a big advantage.

Fill will be disabled, however, as Epic isn’t comfortable slotting someone into your group who hasn’t opted into the cross play experience.

The only consoles that cannot play with each other currently are Xbox One and PS4 as well as Switch and PS4. The former is being worked on by Sony—a major reversion from a previous statement that said it wasn’t possible.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions from the Fortnite website.

I’m on PC, when do I play against cross-platform players?

iOS, Android, PS4, Xbox, and Switch players who are in a cross-platform party may appear as enemies in your match.

“Fill” parties are the same platform as you.

You will only play against PC players if you are playing Solo on PC.

What if I don’t want to cross-platform play?

iOS, Android, PS4, Xbox, and Switch players will only matchmake with cross-platform players if they are in a cross-platform party.

For Xbox players only: You can block your PC or Mobile friends from joining your party by disabling cross-play in the Settings menu.

Can you tl;dr this process?
