Genshin Impact Ayato Guide: Best Build & Materials for Version 2.6

Ayaka’s hot Hydro brother is about to join the roster.

He’s the leader of the Kamisato clan, head of the Yashiro commission, and about to become everyone’s favorite new husbando: meet Ayato, one of the most anticipated 5-Star arrivals in Genshin Impact. Ayato was officially confirmed as an upcoming playable character on February 4, but developer miHoYo has not shared any other details since. Lucky for us, the internet is already full of leaked info on Ayato’s stats and abilities. We have Honey Hunter to thank for providing us with most of the details needed to create this early Ayato build guide.

We expect Ayato to arrive in Genshin Impact Version 2.6 (end of March/start of April). In the meantime, let’s find the best weapons and Artifacts for the new Hydro husbando!

Ayato Abilities

Just like his sister, Ayato is a Sword wielder with Critical Damage as his Ascension stat. Unlike Ayaka though, he’s a Hydro character with a much lower base Attack. Unless he’s your first 5-Star, Ayato should fulfill the role of a Sub DPS and Support hybrid.

Let’s take a closer look at the Kamisato clan leader’s Elemental Burst, which deals Hydro damage and offers a Normal Attack boost. The boost can be used for Ayato’s Elemental Skill effect and for a Main DPS ally. If the Hydro damage doesn’t impress you, remember that it keeps raining for no less than 18 seconds, which means lots (and lots!) of opportunities for powerful Hydro-infused Reactions.

Due to the low base Attack and somewhat weird HP-based effect, Ayato’s Elemental Skill isn’t much good without buffs. It’s up to you how to handle this: you can either choose to ignore the Skill and make Ayato a full Burst Support, or try to maximize Normal Attack damage, Critical Rate, and Hydro damage with your build.

Kamisato Art – Korobi (Normal Attack)

  • Normal Attacks: Up to five swift Sword strikes.
  • Charged Attack: Consumes Stamina to dash forward and perform a double strike.
  • Plunging Attack: Deals AOE damage on impact.

Kamisato Art: Kyouka (Elemental Skill)

  • Ayato teleports away and reappears a short distance from his original position, leaving a Hydro illusion behind.
  • The illusion taunts opponents and explodes when attacked or after its duration (six seconds) ends. The explosion deals AOE Hydro damage.
  • Automatically activates the Takimeguri Kanka state.
    • Ayato’s Normal Attacks become incredibly fast AOE slashes that are converted to Hydro.
    • When the first of these enhanced Normal Attacks hits an opponent, Ayato gains the Namisen effect, which increases the following enhanced Normal Attacks based on his max HP (up to four stacks). All stacks are cleared when Takimeguri Kanka ends.
    • Ayato’s resistance to interruption increases.
    • While the Soukai Kanka state is active, Ayato can’t use his Charged or Plunging Attack. If he leaves the field, the Takimeguri Kanka state ends.

Kamisato Art: Suiyuu (Elemental Burst)

  • Ayato performs a massive AOE Hydro attack.
  • While the field is active, Bloomwater Blades rain down from the sky, dealing Hydro damage to all enemies within the AOE. This effect lasts for 18 seconds.
  • Every character within the AOE gains a Normal Attack bonus.

Kamisato Art: Mine Wo Matoishi Kiyotaki (Passive 1) – Ascension 1

The Elemental Skill gains the following properties:

  • After it’s used, Ayato gains two stacks of Namisen.
  • When the Hydro illusion explodes, Ayato gains the maximum number of Namisen stacks.

Kamisato Art: Michiyuku Hagetsu (Passive 2) – Ascension 4

If Ayato is off-field and his Energy is below 40, he regains 1.5 Energy per second.

Kamisato Art: Daily Cooking (Passive 3) – Unlocked

When cooking a dish perfectly, there’s an 18% chance to receive a special kind.

Best Ayato Build

Best Ayato Weapons

Ayato’s upcoming signature weapon, Haran Tsukishiro Futsu, is the best Sword for him. It will help you meet the Critical Rate requirement and it grants a Hydro and Elemental Skill boost. The only other things you need are allies with short Skill cooldowns.

The Jade Cutter is a good 5-Star substitute with an even greater Critical Rate increase. You have to focus your Ayato build on HP though, and ideally get him to Constellation Level 2. If you don’t feel like doing that, try the Black Sword instead. It’s not as good as the 5-Stars, but you don’t need to do anything or build Ayato a certain way to make use of the Normal Attack increase.

Speaking of weapons that work with any Ayato build, here’s a solid 3-Star option: Harbinger of Dawn. It doesn’t have the same potential as the Haran Sword or Jade Cutter, but it offers a reliable Critical Rate and Critical Damage bonus to those without a bag full of Primogems.

  • Haran Tsukishiro Futsu (5-Star) – Increases Critical Rate. Grants an Elemental damage bonus of up to 24%. When other party members use Elemental Skills, Ayato gains a “Wavespike” stack (max two stacks). Use an Elemental Skill to consume all stacks and gain a Normal Attack damage increase of up to 40% per stack for eight seconds.
  • Primordial Jade Cutter (5-Star) – Increases Critical Rate. HP is increased by up to 40%. Additionally, grants an Attack bonus based on the wielder’s max HP.
  • The Black Sword (4-Star) – Increases Critical Rate. Also increases Normal and Charged Attack damage up to 40%. You can regenerate a large part of Attack power as HP when Normal and Charged Attacks score Critical hits.
  • Harbinger of Dawn (3-Star) – Increase Critical Damage. When HP is above 90%, Critical Rate is increased up to 28%.

Best Ayato Artifacts

Unless you run Ayato as a passive Elemental Burst Support only, Heart of Depth fits his kit perfectly. You deal a lot more damage with the Elemental Skill effect, and the Hydro bonus works with the Burst’s AOE too.

Alternatively, you can go for the upcoming Echoes of Offering Artifact set. After using the Elemental Skill, the speedy Normal Attacks makes it easy to trigger Valley Rite. Whichever you choose, it’s best to go for Attack percentage, Hydro bonus, and Critical Rate or Critical Damage as the Artifact sub-stats.

Are you going for a full Support Ayato build instead? Then you probably need all the Energy you can get, so best to use Emblem of Severed Fate combined with Heart of Depth.

  • Heart of Depth – (2) +15% Hydro damage bonus. (4) After using an Elemental Skill, Normal and Charged Attack damage are increased by 30% for 15 seconds.
  • Echoes of an Offering – (2) +18% Attack. (4) When Normal Attacks hit opponents, there’s a 36% chance that it will trigger Valley Rite, which increases Normal Attack by 70% of Attack. If a Normal Attack fails to trigger Valley Rite, the next one has 20% more chance to do so.
  • Emblem of Severed Fate – (2) +20% Energy Recharge.

Best Team for Ayato

Hydro husband Ayato brings more than enough opportunities for Elemental Reaction-based teams; Freeze teams (Cryo), Vaporize teams (Pyro), Electro-Charged teams… Whichever you choose, make sure you have another DPS ally who can make use of that amazingly long-lasting Hydro field. We kind of want you to choose his sister Ayaka, but no pressure.

Remember that Ayato’s Burst offers a Normal Attack bonus, so it’s always good to choose DPS allies who can use that bonus (especially if you don’t care much for Ayato’s Skill). A character like Yoimiya, whose Skill converts her Normal Attacks to Pyro, is a perfect rotation companion. Alternatively, Ayaka can infuse her blade with Cryo and a Catalyst wielder like Klee can easily trigger Reactions.

As for Support, remember that we’re dealing with an 80 Energy Burst. Use another Hydro for better Energy Recharge or, if you have her, put Raiden Shogun on the team. If you need a healer, try Kokomi for additional Hydro or Diona for Freeze effects.

Top Tier Team

  • Main DPS/Sub DPS: Ayaka, Kazuha, Yoimiya, Klee
  • Sub DPS/Support: Ayato, Xingqiu, Raiden Shogun

  • Main DPS: Ayato, Kaeya
  • Sub DPS: Fischl, Sucrose, Xiangling
  • Sub DPS/Support: Bennett
  • Support: Barbara

Common Ascension Material: Old/Kageuchi/Famed Handguard

Ayato’s Constellations

As is often the case, the strongest Constellation ability on this list is Level 4, Endless Flow. The other Constellations are simply damage upgrades. You don’t need them for Ayato’s Burst Support or his ability to apply wet condition on enemies. Consider spending your spare Primogems on his signature weapon rather than the Constellation.

  • Level 1 – Kyouka Fushi: Ayato’s enhanced sword strikes after using the Elemental Skill deal 40% more damage against enemies with 50% HP or less.
  • Level 2 – World Source: The maximum amount of Namisen stacks is increased to five. If Ayato has three or more stacks, his max HP is increased by 40%.
  • Level 3 – Gensui Ichiro: Increases the Elemental Skill level by three (maximum upgrade is 15).
  • Level 4 – Endless Flow: After using the Elemental Burst, all allies gain a 20% Normal Attack speed increase for a duration of 12 seconds.
  • Level 5 – To Admire the Flowers: Increases Elemental Burst level by three (maximum upgrade is 15).
  • Level 6 – Boundless Origin: After triggering the Elemental Skill, Ayato’s next two strikes create two additional hits, each dealing 300% of his Attack as damage. They’re not affected by Namisen.
