Fortnite Season 8, Week 3 Challenges: Cacti Countermeasures

If you’re a cactus you’d better watch the flup out, because Epic is gunnin’ for you and all your ammo box/chest pals in this week’s Battle Pass challenges. How dare you retain moisture in an arid environment. And those cute little fruit that sprout up out of your spiny limbs? You make Epic sick. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Here’s what Fortnite Battle Royale players will be doing this weekend, in addition to ridding the world of the cactus scourge:

  • Visit Fatal Fields and Salty Springs in a single match
    • Visit Haunted Hills and Tilted Towers in a single match
      • Visit Frosty Flights and Loot Lake in a single match [Free | 5 Battle Stars total]
  • Destroy cacti in the desert
    • Destroy ammo boxes in the snow
      • Destroy chests in the jungle [Free | 5 Battle Stars total]
  • Place 2 different Trap Slot items in a single match [Free | 10 Battle Stars]
  • Search where the magnifying glass sits on the Treasure Map loading screen [Battle Pass | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Search 7 chests at Sunny Steps or Fatal Fields [Battle Pass | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Deal 500 headshot damage to opponents [Battle Pass | 10 Battle Stars]
  • Get an elimination with an SMG, pistol, and Sniper Rifle [Battle Pass | 10 Battle Stars]

Visit Fatal Fields and Salty Springs in a single match, etc

Ah, the first “go to these two places in one match” challenge set of the new season. Still has that refurbished challenge smell! Or is that ozone? Anyway, just keep your head down and try to avoid firefights, and you’ll be able to knock all three stages of this challenge out over the course of three matches. If you can find a Driftboard or Baller, even better, but these locations are close enough that you should be able to hoof it without much trouble. Just make sure that getting this done is your top priority — if you spend too much time looting or farming, you may not be able to make it to your second destination before the storm closes in.

Destroy cacti in the desert, etc

Due to the ongoing infestation, there’ll be no shortage of cacti for you to cull in the desert biome. Your best bet for ammo boxes in “the snow” will be Happy Hamlet, since ammo boxes prefer to hang out behind counters, on shelves, and under stairs, and Happy Hamlet is chock full of all that stuff. Sunny Steps and the remnants of Tomato Temple should hold enough chests for your jungle-chest-destroying needs, so stick to those opposing sides of the volcano. Pirate camps, if you happen to find yourself near one, also tend to have chests. And remember! It doesn’t matter if the ammo boxes/chests have been searched already, all you’re looking to do is break them.

Place 2 different Trap Slot items in a single match

Disco Domination is back, replacing Team Rumble in the LTM slot for this week. While less ideal for item/combat challenges, Disco Domination still has respawns enabled and an enhanced loot table for chests, so it should be the fastest way to complete this challenge. “Trap Slot” items are anything that can be placed on the ground, wall, or ceiling, so stuff like Mounted Turrets and Cozy Campfires. Just focus on looting above actually playing, and you should be good.

Search where the magnifying glass sits on the Treasure Map loading screen

Which loading screen is the Treasure Map loading screen, you might be wondering? Who cares! Just got to the location on the map above and claim your prize.

Search 7 chests at Sunny Steps or Fatal Fields

When trying to complete challenges like this during normal solo play, we recommend heading to whichever location is furthest away from the bus route. This should help ensure that you have as little competition as possible, since most folk will be sticking to more convenient locations. If you’re going after this in Disco Domination or some other LTM, just go for whichever spot is on your team’s side of the island. And remember! If you’re getting chests in Sunny Steps, destroy them afterwards for credit towards that other challenge.

Deal 500 headshot damage to opponents

Again, Disco Domination is your friend here. Getting up close and personal with a shotgun can be just as effective for headshot damage as long-range sniper tactics, so don’t worry too much about finding the exact loadout for this one. It’s also worth noting that you just need the damage here, not a confirmed elimination, so don’t be shy about taking shots that would be less than perfect in solos. You gotta put yourself out there, you know?

Get an elimination with an SMG, pistol, and Sniper Rifle

Are you tired of us talking up Disco Domination yet? Because it’s also the ideal mode for completing this challenge. If you’re careful, you can also get some headshot damage in while attempting these gun-specific eliminations, which’ll save time on the challenge above. Try and make a mental note of which weapons you’re getting credit for as you go, because the game’s UI won’t tell you.

Hidden Tier

It’s an odd-numbered week, which means that a hidden tier comes into play once you’ve finished every Weekly Challenge in the season thus far. Head to the location on the map above, and remember that the tier only spawns once you’re within a couple tiles of it.
