Fanwidth Episode 005: What if Game Was Book?

Oh! Hey there gamers. It’s lovely to see you again. Welcome back to your one and only official Fanbyte podcast. It’s our show about fandom, culture, and a lot of video games (at least this week).

No guest this week, we’re afraid! It’s just Steven and merritt going off about their usual nonsense. Except that this week their usual nonsense is mostly video game related. Sorry, but no ridiculous tangents today… Well, there’s one ridiculous tangent, but it’s about “Worlds of Power” — a series of novels loosely based on NES games. It counts, dammit!

We also dive deep into some big news this week. Developer Red Candle Games’ very spooky Devotion was released to rave reviews… until controversy over some of its background art caused it to be “review bombed” and removed from Steam. Meanwhile, THQ Nordic made just about one of the worst marketing decisions in history. Finally, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the eighth generation of Pokémon games, were finally announced to the world. The hosts are… okay with the showcase, but still can’t help but hope for more when Nintendo inevitably shows the game at E3 this year.

Be sure to check back every Wednesday for another roughly 60 minutes of pure audio goodness. And hey! If you’ve already read this far, why don’t you head on over to iTunes and give Fanwidth a rating and review? It really does help (seriously) and would mean the absolute world to us. And if you like our show, or have suggestions and questions for next episode, leave a comment below! Steven reads all of them and just might mention your query in the future.

Discussed on this episode: Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pokémon Showdown, Dragalia Lost, Devotion, Darksiders

Our intro and outro music is “Namasteee” by Fashion, acquired through Epidemic Sound.
