The NXT episodes the week after a Takeover are always a little bit awkward. While the matches are usually something to look forward to just because of the energy of a Takeover crowd, there’s a lot of rehashing what happened at Takeover, which seems silly to me, since anyone watching weekly NXT TV definitely prioritizes seeing NXT Takeover. This episode was no exception, consisting of some pretty good matches and a bunch of Takeover interviews that were already on WWE.Com.

Candice Lerae beat Aliyah looking like a cute little paper cup
Does Candice Lerae still make her own gear? I know she used to. Either way she looked great in this purple white and turquoise look very reminiscent of that one iconic 90s paper cup. I am a huge Candice fan and make no secret of my frustration with how little she is used, so I was very happy to see her get this match at Barclay’s in front of the Takeover crowd. This wasn’t a mindblowingly great match, but it was pretty solid. Lerae won with a lionsault. I hope this is the beginning of her actually getting used in NXT.
NXT has a new ace?
For those of you who don’t follow New Japan Pro Wrestling, Kushida was the long time ace of their junior heavyweight division, and arguably their best all around in-ring talent. He appeared in the audience at Takeover and they showed this little clip of him signing his contract on NXT this week. If they misuse a talent this strong with the most babyface babyface energy of anyone I’ve ever seen, I will go to Orlando and yell at them all myself.
If you think me doing weekly NXT recaps is going to make me get used to “Jaxson Ryker” as a name, you’re wrong
Jaxson Ryker and Danny Burch put on a watchable match that felt competitive and fun, and, most importantly, ended before I could get bored with looking at them. Ryker’s facial expressions are completely bonkers, which I appreciate. Ryker won and then tried to continue beating up Burch, but then Oney Lorcan came in to try to save his partner. Lorcan and Burch were overpowered by the Forgotten Sons. It’s pretty boring.
No one is tougher than a horse girl
That’s true by the way. Horse girls may seem mousey and weird, but they are obsessed with power. After retaining the NXT Women’s Championship, Shayna Baszler announced: “I’m taking them all out. I’m never losing this title.”
Former UK Champion Pete Dunne crankily bled from chest
Dunne had one sentence for the cameras after losing the United Kingdom Championship to WALTER: “There will be a rematch.”
All is not well with the Undisputed Era
After losing to Johnny Gargano on Friday night, Adam Cole blamed Roderick Strong. I hope they work things out!
Slipknot is the new official music of NXT
Alright. Glad to see the commitment to making NXT the cool, hip, now brand is still so strong.
Street Prophets vs Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel
This was just a really fun tag team match. I would love to see more of these guys together! Montez Ford in particular is extremely charismatic, but these teams have some great chemistry. The Street Prophets won with an avalanche blockbuster electric chair suplex.
